CHRISTINA FASSBENDER studied with Prof Jean-Claude Gérard in Stuttgart and with Prof Michael Martin Kofler at the Mozarteum Salzburg.
In addition to scholarships (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, scholarship from the Federal President at the German University Competition, Villa musica, Mainz), she has won several prizes, including the German Music Competition Prize in 2001.
She has performed as a soloist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Strings, the Orchestra of the Beethovenhalle Bonn and the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, among others.
From 1999 to 2012 she was principal flute in the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin.
She has also played as principal flute in orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Bavarian State Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra and many others.
In 2012, she was appointed professor at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, moved to the Musikhochschule Würzburg in March 2015 and took up the flute professorship at the Universität der Künste Berlin in October 2017. She frequently accepts invitations to festivals and masterclasses as well as to serve on juries at national and international competitions.
Former and current students play in the following orchestras, among others: Mannheim Theatre, Hanover Theatre, Hamburg State Opera, Erfurt Theatre, Braunschweig Theatre, Komische Oper Berlin, Gotha Theatre, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Neubrandenburg Theatre, Ljubljana Orchestra/Slovenia, Lahti Orchestra/Finland, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra/Switzerland.
In addition to her work at the Berlin University of the Arts, she is currently training as a breathing teacher at the Institute for Perceptible Breath (founded by Ilse Middendorf) in Berlin until probably summer 2025. Since 2017, she has been working intensively on the subject of breath, movement and interpretation.
She lives in Berlin with her husband Alexander Bader and two daughters.
Christina Fassbender plays a Sankyo 14 carat solid gold flute with an 18 carat head.
