As competition and professional pressure continue to grow, establishing a successful and secure career as a flautist has become increasingly challenging. Alongside exceptional musical talent, it takes courage, perseverance and determination. Supporting musical development while encouraging and strengthening each musician’s individual personality is both a joy and an ongoing challenge.
At the same time, it is essential for young people to develop a broad range of skills that will help them navigate the challenges of life, both within and beyond their professional careers. These include communication skills, decisiveness, empathy, courage and fairness – but also, importantly, joy, a sense of fun and creativity.
All of these aspects, alongside technical expertise, form an integral part of this masterclass.

The Hungarian flautist Anna Garzuly-Wahlgren studied in Budapest, Munich and New York. During her studies, she won numerous prizes at international flute competitions. At the age of 24, she was engaged as Associate Principal Flute of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and subsequently spent many years as Acting Principal Flute.
She is active as a soloist and chamber musician and is, among other things, a co-founder of the Leipzig-based flute ensemble Quintessenz. She can also be heard on numerous award-winning orchestral and chamber music recordings.
Since March 2024, she has been Professor of Flute at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig, where she previously held a professorship in Wind Chamber Music. From 2019 to 2024, she was Professor of Flute in Weimar.
